We’ve all been there – sometimes, you’re just under so much stress you can hardly sleep. No matter which position you shuffle into, your bed feels uncomfortable and tough. We’ve come up with 5 tips for beating stress and getting a better night sleep!
One of the main causes of insomnia is stress. With so many worries buzzing around your head, it’s so difficult to drop off to sleep. If you’re having some issues with stressing out and worrying, there are a number of things you can do to reduce your stress levels and get a better sleep.
If you don’t get much exercise, you could be missing out on a chance to tackle stress effectively. Exercise releases endorphins and provides you with a natural sleepiness which can help you deal with stress and anxiety.
Try going for a power-walk when you’re feeling tense. Try to include some form of exercise into every day – walk a bit further to the bus stop, or go for a quick jog a lunch time.
Get Away From it All
We all have to work to make a living, but if you don’t have some time to yourself you’ll be a more stressed person.
For a start, try setting aside at least two nights a week for you to enjoy your own time. Take the phone off the hook for a couple of hours, cook yourself something nice and have a soak in the tub.
Sometimes, it’s difficult to get started on a morning without a cup of coffee! However, if you’re becoming reliant on cups and cups of the stuff every day, you could be added to your stress quota.
Try not to rely on caffeine, alcohol and especially nicotine in order to function. They may act as crutches, but they will simply cause more problems and keep you high strung. Cut down on all three stimulants and you’ll notice that you feel less agitated.
Organise your Workload
Remember, it’s quality and not quantity when it comes to work; staying late to get more done is all very well now and again, but if it’s affecting you then you need to curb it.
If there’s plenty piling up, take control. Concentrate on the most important tasks, make a list of priorities and chip away at it.
Try Relaxation Exercises
A good way of managing stress is to take some time out every day to do some relaxation exercises. It won’t solve whatever problem you are worrying about, but it will help you to deal with it better.
Practice some deep breathing, preferably in an area where you won’t be disturbed. At home, put on some relaxing music and try to relax your muscles.
