We spoke to Alison Cooper, the owner and founder of Boutique Holiday Lets, to hear a little bit more about the apartment and what you can get up to during your stay…
What was the inspiration behind creating the Sandbanks holiday let apartment?
The architecture in Bournemouth is an incredible mixture of art deco and new builds, and I wanted to create a space within an iconic building that could live up to today’s standards and technology. The apartment was very dated, and has recently been completely remodelled by Design’d Living, visionary interior designers whose exceptional eye for detail and exquisite practical designs create the perfect ambiance, affording ‘The Lookout’ a highly stylish, contemporary look and feel and a very clever use of space. I found the perfect apartment directly opposite the Studland Chain Ferry in a dated building that I believe had a lot of potential and Design’d Living did an amazing job at creating a practical space for guests while leaving some of the original features of the apartment.
What is your favourite feature in the apartment?
It has to be the master bedroom. Not only does it have a sea view, but the curtains are electric so you don’t even have to leave bed to get a glimpse of the water. The main feature of the room in a design sense is a hand-built wooden headboard that runs the entire width of the room. Combined with the soft carpet and uber-comfy bed, it’s a room you go in to relax.
What is the best activity to do during a visit to Sandbanks?
It’s not a trip to Sandbanks without a visit to the beach. Winter or summer, the beaches here are some of the best in the world and it’s something everyone has to experience. My perfect day at The Lookout would involve breakfast on our balcony watching the boats come and go, followed by a long walk on the beach – this is perfect for tiring out kids! Following that I’d hop on the chain ferry by foot and head to Shell Bay for lunch – a beautiful little restaurant with sea views which is only a short walk on the other side. During the summer in the evening we head to Harbour Heights and sit on the balcony with crisp glass of Rosé. The views overlook the whole of the harbour which makes for a stunning sunset.

Early riser or night owl?
As an owner of several different businesses I have a very varied schedule so I would say I have to be a bit of both. During the week I like to get up early to tick off my to-do list, but come the weekend I could quite easily spend all morning in bed…sometimes even the whole day!
My morning ‘wake up’ essentials are…
I’m very British, I love a good cup of tea first thing. Not so much an essential but wherever I happen to be – whether it’s at one of the holiday lets or my own house I love having a view. The view from our Sandbanks holiday let opens right out onto the Chain Ferry to Studland bay. You can’t beat a sea view first thing to wake you up!
My must-have for the best night’s sleep is…
I always have a cup of the Serenity supplement from Bodyism before bed. It’s a powder that you mix with water or milk and I find it sends me straight off to sleep! In addition to this, I spritz some This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray onto my pillow – it’s like a bottle of spray on relaxation. I have to be comfy in bed so I always like to make sure that when I put on a fresh set of bedding that they’re ironed.
If I could sleep anywhere it would be?
In my own bed! Before I sold my first business, I used to travel a lot for work. I’d spend weeks in the UAE staying in hotels, and while it sounds very glamorous, all I wished for was my own bed at home. I take my sleep very seriously and so I have a very comfortable bed from VI Springs.
